6 Golden Rules to Keep Your Smartphone Safe While Travelling

Travel and technology are a part of the same game. Technology has made trip planning much easier in past few years. Do you remember the days when bus and train tickets were booked by actually going to the station kiosk? Yes, but now it is a click far away from us. A single trip planner application can help you do everything regarding your trip. Smartphone is one such technology which helps us plan a trip, make travel itinerary, find different places on maps easily, connect with people and many more. While all this technology is helpful, you are also at a higher risk of theft; May it be online or offline.

Well, here are 6 golden ways to keep your Smartphone safe while travelling.

Look Around –

The most important thing of all is to be socially aware of your surroundings when travelling. When you are in a foreign country and thinking of using your phone in public, take a look around. Make sure the area or the place is not a high crime area. Avoid using your phone until you reach a safer place. You can Google and easily find out the areas which are prone to threat while making your vacation plan to avoid the harm later.

Protect it – If you are looking for a physical protection for your phone when travelling abroad, make sure you buy a good case for your phone. Also see to it that case is scratch proof and water proof too. You don’t want your phone to get all wet when you are on an adventure and your phone falls off into the water.

Passwords First –

Remember how angry we get if a friend snatches our phone and there is no password? Now, just imagine what would happen if some thief snatches it and runs away. About one third of total smartphone users population, don’t use a password to protect their phones. Keeping a password and a biometric identification is the primary step to protect your data if your phone is lost or stolen.

Go Minimal – Travelling minimal is always the best way to reduce the weight on your back. You can easily find a good waist strap bag which is compact in size and can easily occupy all of your accessories. Having that bag helps you keep your smartphone, hard drives and other important documents safe and at your hands reach. Also it is advisable to keep your phones in your front pockets as it is difficult for snatchers to take it from there.

Beware of Free – We always prefer to use free public Wi-Fi when travelling abroad. While it may sound amazing and also probably can save you few dimes over your cellular network, it is way more risky than you think. Try using vpn(Virtual Private Network) while accessing internet over free Wi-Fi. If any of the above is not possible, then at least try not to share your personal information like credit card number or address while connected to the public Wi-Fi’s.

Prepare for the Worst- There are times when your smartphone may get lost or stolen. Not being prepared for such times can land you into trouble. Do not worry. Applications like “find-my-phone” are just there for your help in such situations. Everything right from wiping your data off to locating the phone can be done through such security applications.

On a final note, Travelling is about enjoying the moment. So do not scare but always be aware.

4 Worst Travel Disasters and How to Avoid Them

Travel is all about finding yourself through the journey. The most important factor in having a wonderful travel experience is having a good trip plan or making a perfect travel itinerary. There are many trip planner applications which can help you plan a trip without hesitation and achieve your goal of the perfect vacation plan. But sometimes even after all these efforts taken to plan a perfect trip; things may go wrong while you are actually on your vacation. However, preparing for the worst is always a good idea.

Here are 4 of the worst travel disasters, and how to avoid them

1) Missed Flight –
Missing your flight can be one of your worst nightmares. Missing your flight can ruin your mood as well as your holiday totally. You don’t want to go to airport rushing through crowd to see the gates are closed. You seriously don’t. If in case you miss the flight, you should go to the airlines help desk and report them. They can help you get on the next flight to the destination, whether or not you pay for it depends on whose fault it was for the missed flight. The best option is such cases are to have a good Travel insurance that covers you on missed flights. Also in case if your luggage is left in a flight you missed, you can report at the counter and they can hold it for you at the destination.

2) Passport Loss –
Opening your bag or purse to find that your passport is not there is the worst thing that could happen on your trip. The very first thing you should be doing is not to panic and report at the nearest local police. Also you should contact your local embassy immediately and report about your situation to them. You may get an emergency passport depending on the country you are in. Have a habit of keeping a copy of your passport in some other part of luggage is advisable.

3) Lost Luggage –
The last thing that you would want to see on airport is your missing luggage. No one would like waiting for the baggage at the counter to eventually find out that your baggage is lost or missing. If this happens, immediately report to the airline help desk and fill out ‘missing baggage’ form.  If your bag is probably misplaced on some other flight, the airlines will return it back to you as soon as possible. In case if the airline has lost your luggage, and are unable to find it, you can file a claim for damages. In that case, you will probably have to make a list of things that were in your bag.  And remember to have a good travel insurance. Always.

4) Being Sick or Injured – There is always a chance that you may get ill or injured while on your vacation and there is not much you can do. It ruins your dream trip in minutes. But you don’t have to worry about it. Always remember to seek medical help as soon as you feel like ill or you get injured during an activity. Having health travel insurance is always a good idea because when you seek medical help, you may have to pay a large amount for your medical care. Having a medical insurance helps you cover these charges without emptying your pockets on the trip. Also, have a good first aid kit and medicines in cases of emergencies. And don’t forget to keep contact numbers of your family member or dear ones to contact in case of emergencies.

Travel is all about embracing what comes in front of you. So don’t be afraid, but take good care always.

How To Travel In  A Country Where You Don’t Speak The Local Language

There's an enormous difference between getting around Country where there is a lot of English signage and numerous individuals communicate in English — and getting around, say, Morocco or Cambodia. Be that as it may, these tips ought to serve you well anywhere.

Here some smartest travel hacks and local treats on how to travel a Country where you don’t speak the local language and also not to forget some essential trip plans.

Learn 10 essential words
You'd be amazed the amount you can perform on the off chance that you know how to say "Hi," "Thank you," "Yes," "No," "Please," "Goodbye," "Do you communicate in English?", "Where is… ?", "I'm lost," and "Help." If you've landed in a country without knowing any of these words, simply ask somebody at your lodging's (or any hotel's) front work area. Regardless of the possibility that you learn just "Hi" and "Thank you," demonstrating you've endeavoured will procure you impressive goodwill from local people.

Smile
It goes a long way in any country (aside from Russia, where it is not standard to smile at outsiders).

Talk with hand signals
Pointing, miming, and playing charades can often get your message across. If you think you’ve mistakenly offended someone, pull out the Namaste gesture: Press your hands together with your fingers pointing upwards and your thumbs close to your chest, and bow your head slightly. That gesture is usually received as a sign of respect and peace.

Carry a notepad and pen

At the point when hand gestures don't communicate as the need should arise, playing Pictionary frequently does. You can attract pictures to make yourself caught on. The other individual can utilize your notebook to write numbers or draw a map.

Utilize a translator application
There are many to choose from, but the Google Translate app can be a lifesaver: Point the app’s camera at text (a menu, a road sign, a plaque in a museum), and the app automatically translates it. It also lets you have a conversation with someone: Select a pair of languages, talk into the microphone, and the app translates whatever it hears in either language into the other.

Approach the right individuals for directions
If you’re trying to figure out whom on a street to ask for directions, the person most likely to speak English is usually a professionally dressed young person. But also consider walking into any hotel, restaurant, or store and asking an employee there for directions. I walk into hotels and ask concierges for help all the time.

Carry your hotel's business card in the local dialect
That way you can simply discover your way back to the hotel by demonstrating the location to a cab driver or to somebody in the city.

Request that your lodging attendant record names and addresses
Have him or her write, in the local language, the names and addresses of the places on your agenda, so you can show them to a taxi driver or to a local whom you’re asking for directions.

Utilize your cell phone camera to record your route
Especially when you can’t read street signs or numbers, use your smart phone to take pictures—of intersections, buildings, signs, and other things that might serve as landmarks along your path—so you can retrace your steps via the photos. It’s like a modern-day version of breadcrumbs. When you’re taking the subway, snap a photo of the transit system map upon entering, so you can refer to it as often as you need to, especially when changing trains or platforms.

Discover people who need to rehearse their English on you

In case you're searching for local people to communicate in English with, an awesome place to discover them is by finding a college grounds (which is fun in itself). Book shops likewise have a tendency to be great spots to discover active wanna-be English speakers.

Whether you are a big fan of Operas or no, but the experience of sitting in a Roman amphitheater  watching the show with thousands of people as per the tradition is a must do.

4) There’s time and then… there’s Italian time -

Remember when someone says the show starts at 7, it actually will start at 7:30. Italian people are laidback people. It is the same for restaurants, museums and public transports especially trains. To avoid being stuck up in situations of waiting make it a rule to be there a bit late.

5) Get a tour guide -

Italy is a big country full of surprises. It has variety of places, arts, restaurants, etc. If you are new to the country or visiting it for the very first time, it is advisable to take a good tour guide. There are also walking tours throughout the cities like Rome, Venice, and Florence.

6) Know and learn how to handle Alcohol -

There is a huge difference in consumption of alcohol between Italy and other countries. The legal drinking age here is 16 for beers and wine while 18 for hard liquors. Italians also tend to drink a lot, but they don’t drink to get drunk.

There are numerous places in Italy to see. Capital city Rome is one of the main tourist attractions. Apart from that, there are beautiful cities like Florence, Sicily. Having Gondola ride in Venice is a must do thing. Also, Italy is the said to be the birthplace of pizza. So don’t miss out on having fresh pizzas in Naples. Gelato is another thing you must have.

8) Afternoon Closings-

People in Italy close the restaurants and go home to enjoy the lunch with their families and relax. You should always take this note. Many shops and restaurants will close down from 1-4 in the afternoon. This thing still surprises and perplexes Americans.

9) Beware of Pickpockets-

Roman pickpockets are infamous all over the world. And they especially pick people who are travelling alone and keep their valuables in their outside pockets. Therefore, it’s advisable to take care and put up your stuff in your bag while roaming on the streets.

10) Figure out public Transportation –

You need to know very well about the trains and buses that run throughout the day. And don’t forget the Italian time. Because the trains here are never on time.

Finally, slow down and relax. Accept that you can’t see all of it in a one trip. To see such a plethora of arts, culture, food, vineyards, museums- a lifetime is not enough. So slow down, savor what you get and cherish those memories forever.
